To My Old Best Friend

To My Old Best Friend

A Poem by Ava
"

This is something I wrote for my old best friend when she and I drifted apart. It's not exactly great writing, but it captures how I feel pretty well. Please tell me if you have suggestions :)

"

You know, if there’s one thing I’ve learned in the past year or two

It’s that we learn much more from the bad things that happen than the good things we do.

And I see that even great things must go bad, must have some ending too.

But in this case, the good things were so worth the bad that before I bid you adieu

I just wanted to thank you once more for all the great years I had with you.

You were my best friend, my soulmate, and my whole world’s glue.

I knew when we said goodbye we'd never have a true, final end because I’ll forever love you

And I think you’ll love me too.

And goodness knows if I could I’d have all those things anew.

But I guess that’s our ending, I do hope to see you again soon;

Goodbye, my dear friend, adieu, adieu!

Author's Note

Ava
I feel like it doesn't read very well, so I'd like some help rephrasing the longer sentences. The rhyme scheme (or lack thereof) is also a little questionable. I also feel like there's some inconsistency in what I say about endings.
