Getting lost in the so and soA Poem by Avani Chhaya
The saddened city covered opens to the lamp-filled streets
It seems as if the fifty thousand so and so get lost within the beats Sinking lower into the depths of political corruption until it's over your head God, it's easier to feel nothing, to sink beneath lead Scratch the damn thing in its entirety, erase it all The smog-filled, battered concrete takes the lightest fall Bruised and bullied hearts fill up the police report No possible way to get a hearing in court Listen to the people, the shouts and passion-ridden riots We need to go on a full-scale all-nation diet To ease the suffering, to heal the pain Please don't tell me that this is all in vain The windows of the powerful block out the noise How dare you shut out their voices? They're only boys Seeking retribution for those who have been wronged It's something the fifty thousand so and so have longed Count the wasted hours outside the window in clear view Forgiveness won't be given, while you're sitting in a pew God don't do that easy - it's us who has to let you go Gravel on your knees, weep your tears yet it's something we can't forgo Will we ever be able to forget, to forgive? It's something you have to harbor for all the days you live © 2011 Avani Chhaya |
