Strands of optimismA Poem by Avani Chhaya
flooded with a choke-hold sensation, a gripping suffocation
tripping into the chaotic whirlwind, falling ever more into the rabbit hole fluttering eyelids in an ashamed downcast, afraid to utter the great truth searching for simple lies with flawless a-li-bis, yearning for an immediate relief comforted by the instant-to-go version, reassured only for the passing minute sinking steadily into the criss-crossed armchair, seeking salvation from insulated windows and heavy tree branches ignoring the easy opportunity with bated breath, shunning the persistently nagging fates with imagined will salvaging torn pieces of dignity, pushing humiliation out with casual indifference mustering up the remaining strands of optimism, gathering the last-minute courage in my arsenal to brave the next day
