Cave

Cave

A Poem by Amanda Avalon

A cave where the past is buried
Where you burrow yourself inside
Me
A black hole
Pills prescribed:
"I'm doing just fine."
SNAP
And dragons cease to fly
I
Just like you enter
Periods of despair
Followed by pangs of desire
Countered by seething hatred
Ultimately ending in apathy
How can I decide?
When I cannot hide
When you know the repercussions
Snapping back and forth
Like a serpent's tail and tongue
'Til it eats its own
Don't cave in, the message reads
Don't cave in
Cause once you crumble
The mountains will crack
They will falter
They'll fall
Just like before
"It's always going to be the same between us."
Then,
What's all this worth it for?
