Parcels in ServiceA Poem by Amanda AvalonAn oddly descriptive piece looking back on life at Americas #1 package facility... Experiment created for my Poetry Workshop class at Columbia in 2007A palace maze, stagecoaches wind the interior The hierarchy, kings and queens with heads topped in jewel
A knight in shining armor and his chariot
Sweeps up the young servant girl-
Providing more fodder for the jesters.
The congregation, body politic
Will have my head ‘round suppertime
A roast, sumptuous in cyanide
The band orchestrates, and they waltz
To the nines, in formal’s best.
