The Invasion Persuasion

The Invasion Persuasion

A Poem by Amanda Avalon
"

A blending of voices belonging to city colleges as working class. The young adults of a new generation

"

Long

Knitted scarves, far as the eye can see
Limitless in color and style
scream out-
“I have arrived!”
A zoo of intellects, we thrive
the kaleidoscope city, windy
our hallways

On the blue-collar scene
the first rate vampires
dirt-ridden work boots, running belts
Screeching
like the drunken girls in Kodak
Authority took off and ran some time ago
Suburban keggers,
beggars and sessions
Dundee, Algonquin, and Kirchoff
“This is our town now…”

and no one’s there to put up a fight

I had to add the streets I grew up on, even if the names harbor no significance to anyone else :)

This made me laugh. It is a wonderful expression of youth ful pride, enthusiasm and rebelliousness. Very well done.

If life in college doesn't begin to turn out some math and science majors they will be sweeping those streets for a living..Our last factory here shuts down completely in September...we have two colleges but home grads have to leave to find work..here the kids [in the south] think tripping on meth is more important than school....thats why 1 in 300 is in prison...college was a place for me to study hard and try to make a better life than I had as one of 9 children...God bless...Valentine
