Home to Roost

Home to Roost

A Story by authorised1960
"

A man's past comes back to haunt him...

"

"David ‘Bruiser’ Medford!" he exclaimed, offering his outstretched hand. "Who’d have thought it?"

The expensively-acquired tan could not hide the blanching of his face as he grasped the proffered hand.

"Hello, Brendan." he said nervously

"Isn’t this a turn-up for the books?" Brendan said. "Your pigeons have come home to roost at last."

David Medford smiled weakly, feeling suddenly sick.

Medford, new employee, one-time teenage tearaway and school bully could not meet the eye of the man who had once been the kid who had been the principal victim of his cruelty at school -- and who was his new boss.

Great short story! The last sentence is very long. Maybe try break it up? I love the compact clarity of this. Well done :)

Thank you for your comment. I disagree with you regarding the last sentence: yes, it is quite long. .. read more
