Dad

Dad

A Chapter by A. L. Allen
"

A birthday poem I wrote for my dad.

"
Dad
These three letters
Always make me glad
No matter where I am
Or where you are
It will always be the same

With one text
You make my day
When I'm perplexed
You always know what to say

You've listened to my tears

Throughout all the years

And with your corny jokes

You've made me smile

And with your love

You've made my days worthwhile

I can be myself

When I'm around you

I'm grateful for that

And I'm grateful for you too

You are my hero

When I'm feeling like a zero

You catch me when I fall

You teach me how to stand tall

Thank you daddy

You'll be my number one

Forever and for always

Even when my college life has begun

And I'm walking down life's new hallways

I love you so much

Don't ever change

There's nothing I'd rearrange

Happy Birthday

Love, ______

Author's Note

A. L. Allen
I left the very last word blank for a reason. I'd prefer to keep my name somewhat anonymous, and that last word happens to be my first name. :P

I wrote this for my dad's 43rd birthday (wow, he sounds really old when you write it down). I know this isn't one of my best poems in terms of technicality, but it truly comes from the heart. Almost every stanza has a true story behind it, and if you're interested in what those stories are, feel free to message me about them. :)

Overall, what do you think?

It's like you're taking me through a roller coaster of your thoughts, I like that. It's really a sweet poem for your father, I'm sure he loves it. Oh, yes, and 43 isn't too old, I know some people my age that have fathers that are 48.
Anyways, I hope your Dad had, or is having a great day for his birthday.
Amazing job, I must say this one more time. Keep it up!

Awesome!! I'm with Marie, only I would've put in stuff that embarrassed him more.....trust me, that wouldn't be very hard. He has a lot of......interesting stories.XD

This is a wonderful tribute to your father. Forty three isn't very old. My father lived to be ninety. If I'd written him a poem it would just have embarrassed both of us.
