Ivory KeysA Chapter by A. L. AllenA poem that I wrote to bring to life one of my personal fantasies.I walked down the halls Every day with my friends Not hearing what was coming from the walls As we talked about the latest trends
But one day, when I was lonely and needed a friend I hear your music, coming from the stage room I walk towards the room, and my ear to the door I lend The music is soft, light, and beautiful. The music teacher; is what I assume.
I open the heavy door The music calling my name It was not the music teacher; I had never seen you before But as soon as I did, I knew my life would never be the same
You sat there, playing on the grand Piano Forte Your fingers the masters of those ivory keys I took a seat and listened; I didn’t want to go away As you played your piano symphony with the greatest of ease
The music did wonders for me It soothed, inspired, and lifted It made me see the world the way you see And then, the music shifted
It spoke of longing and heart-break Of being seen but unseen It was like it put a stake Through my heart; that this sorrow had fallen on the shoulders of a teen
I wiped away my tears As you finished your master-piece with one last flourish I applauded as I never had in all my years At your stunning finish
You started in surprise And then ducked your head shyly That one gesture was my demise And my legs became wobbly
I smiled My heart beating in my chest You had me completely beguiled Need I say the rest?
Your dark hair was perfect Short, but untamed And I could detect A certain light in your dark eyes that could not be named
My heart swelled at your gaze I felt as if I had known you from the start You were kind, gentle, funny, and humble, but lost in the maze That we call life; that’s what troubled your heart
You spoke a few simple words to me Saying that you had not expected someone to be watching you You said that you could not see Why I had wanted to
My smile grew wider At your doubts so sweetly expressed To music I was no outsider And yours was obviously the best
That was how it started On the fateful day That was how it started No matter what you may say
That was how I found my love My husband for ever and always I am so incredibly lucky to have found that treasure trove That one day when I listened to those wonderful ivory keys © 2012 A. L. AllenAuthor's Note
