![]() SunshineA Poem by Mike D![]() I don't write much, but poetry helps me to process strong emotions. This one is about a hard break up. I called her sunshine.![]()
Are you really gone away
And warming somewhere else's day And is your circuit of my sky complete? Are these rainclouds here to stay These signs of winter cold and gray And is my fate to ever miss your heat? Your beams of light that lit the night And summer's touch to every sight Left me dazzled, blinking and sublime. But levity had struck me blind and brevity was soon to find Me mourning for our swiftly passing time. Now sunset nears, your colors flaming And twilight's tears and autumn's waving Are scattered in the clouds across the sky. Now winter fears and raven's crowing And reaping all that was my sowing Bears a frost that gathers in my eye. Is it our path to cross again And is your light the same as then And will the warmth of sun rest on my shoulder? And was our time so brief and sweet Enough to memorize your heat Or will you pass me by if I am older? The night is nigh and shadows loom And beasts of sun catcall the moon And the last of summer's fruit is given back. Along with sunshine, laughter fades And the sounds of children in the glades Are silenced with the truth of sunshine's lack. Now lines once drawn upon the walls And crossing threads within the halls Have fallen to the floor like broken art. But in the dark of winter's start Lies the first step towards its depart And love of sunshine never leaves my heart.
