A Poem by Pauline Hamilton

History

Speak to me, O Ancient Stones,

Tell thy tales in dulcet tones,

Of those who once, in days gone by,

Passed this way, their reasons why

They did not linger, dwell for long,

In days gone by, O Ancient Song.

Speak to me, O Castle Keep,

Of battles long and tears you weep,

For those who died and lie here still,

Who did not get their chance to kill

And victors be for they had passed

Their chance to win, find peace at last.

Speak to me and tell their story,

Days of loss and days of glory,

Their triumph over all that came

To try their patience, gave them shame.

How they suffered, how they healed,

All their secrets should be revealed.

Speak to me, and do not fail

To tell their lives, live out their tale:

For they had lived and loved and died,

And now there are not those who cried,

To tell their story and their end

Unless you tell it, their ancient friend.
