The cold captiveA Chapter by echoThe first chapter.
Alicia Rivers was still looking out the window. Even though her gaze only reached the blue curtain, she seemed satisfied. No, she seemed happy. A smile touched the very corners of her eyes, but never made it to her lips.
She was beautiful, but so distant. Her almost white hair touched her fingers as she played with it. She did that for a while, changing positions when she got bored. And then she dropped it. Her hands stopped moving and instead reached for the curtain. She fixed it and for a moment her eyes were coated with a new color. Alicia Rivers wasn't happy anymore and it felt like she went even farther into the distance. ''Elliot Gray. Where are you looking in the middle of my lesson?'' I swear, Elizabeth Calvert was the most intense person I've ever met. And the fact that I had to see her every day didn't help at all. A red ponytail swung around as she walked towards me and touched the corner of my desk. Her green eyes squinted underneath her carefully placed glasses and it felt as if she could kill me with just one look. ''Where are your books?'' She asked while I felt like a crime had just happened and I was the main suspect. ''At home, I guess.'' I replied, trying my best not to mumble. She hated mumbling. ''You guess!? Oh, Elliot..'' She shook her head and fixed her glasses once again. This time she had her eyes closed and raised her hands like she just gave up on a tedious task that was simply too hard for her. Maybe it was. ''Ms. Calvert-'' I tried to speak, but she just raised her hands and continued the lesson. And there I realised. The sweet Ellie that used to come to our house wasn't here anymore.
