WhispersA Poem by Audri CarlevaroIt’s something the loved don’t understand" the aching cold of not fitting in. Heart pounding hatefully in your chest, and brain reminding you of all the rest. Denying invites because they don’t feel right, and dancing alone at home in the pale moonlight. It’s the life of loneliness that’s inescapable, of cold dinners at empty tables of shaking hands and misty eyes, trying to work through the truth and the lies because despite the laughter over drinks nobody can quite decipher what you really think. Eyes dart left to right, full of secrets, fingers twitching at your side with wistful regret. thinking, if you could just say what’s on your mind" but realizing it wouldn’t be right to remind. So, you cross your arms and your heart, and wonder if any of them fall apart in the cold embrace of an empty home, where they wake up never quite ready to atone. But you know the answer, can feel it in your veins, because no matter how hard they claim that they can relate and that everything’s okay, you see the truth in the way they fade away whispers on the wind of your past, people you knew; friendships that could never last. © 2018 Audri CarlevaroReviews
