All Good MenA Poem by Audri Carlevaro
I
One, two, Don’t open the door. Three, four, He’s looking for you. Five, six, It’s the perfect bait, Seven, eight, Where blood and tears mix. Nine, ten, Beware! For you may lose yourself. Eleven, twelve, He’s listening to all good men. II A true story is a work of fiction, When do you read a book, Or watch a movie and listen? Take a second and look… The monster waits at your door. There’s a knife in his hand - Blood is dripping on the floor. Scream if you can! But you can’t. Cautious steps - Heart beat echoing in your ears, Look around for miscellaneous objects, A weapon stronger than your tears. III One, two, He’s waiting for you. Three, four, Ringing the bell on the door. Five six, This could be it. Seven eight, It’s time to seal your fate. Nine, ten, Take a look and then - “Trick or treat!” The tiny ghoul smiles wide, You take your fear in stride And offer his prize, Chuckle at the look in his eyes. The creature leaves, And you take the time to breathe. It’s Halloween, No real monsters out, it would seem. IV You turn away from the door, But, there’s blood on the floor. Darker, and thicker than the fake, Too real to be something someone made. You scream; but it’s too late For the true beast is already inside, And there is no escape. © 2016 Audri Carlevaro |
