Amongst the Wishing Plants

Amongst the Wishing Plants

A Poem by Audri Carlevaro

Her body lay amongst the flowers "
(He killed her).
The kiss of death met her lips "
(She loved him)
She lay there for hours "
(He only wanted revenge.)

For two years her lips met his "
(She didn't expect this end)
Her naivety was her demise "
(As he knew it would be)
Her dream was simply this:
(He didn't care)

“Love me, forever and ever,”
(“I promise,” He lied)
“Every day, until I die!”
(“So soon?” he murmured quietly)
She grinned as he continued to test her --
(He planned it all.)

A field of green and brown grass
(And what she came to call ‘wishing plants’,)
They stood together,
(The truth finally revealed)
And he smiled as her heart broke like shattered glass.

“No!” she cried, “You love me!”
(He never did.)
“You promised…” she whimpered,
(He crossed his fingers)
“W-what's happening? Why can't I see?”
(His poison was working.)

“I can't see!” she screamed.
(He poisoned his lips.)
“What's happening to me?!” she begged "
(Pressed them to hers)
The world was black; she didn't see as he beamed.
(And waited for her curse.)

She looked towards his laughing "
(It was everywhere,)
Tears stung her blind eyes "
(He smirked at her misery)
Everywhere was burning "
(This was his entertainment.)

Her arms lost all feeling "
(He watched as she tried to move,)
Then her legs collapsed beneath her "
(He sat next to her)
She didn't know what it was she was fearing "
(He was her personal Grim Reaper)

“Please…” she cried out,
(He wasn’t going to help her)
Her lungs began failing "
(His favorite part.)
She tried to shout"
(She couldn’t.)

She fell back, against her wishing plants and grass "
(He grinned.)
Her final words left her lips "
(He frowned.)
“Why me?” she asked "
(He had no answer.)

She stopped breathing "
(He gazed at her body.)
Her heart stopped beating "
(And watched.)
Her eyes stared blankly"
(What did he do?)

She lay lifelessly in her favorite place "
(He stood from the ground,)
Eyes wide open, though lifeless "
(He looked at her one last time.)
White clouds spreading across her pupils"
(And he ran.)

A blind love,
(A cruel lover,)
A blind love,
(A heartless lover,)
A blind love,
(A thoughtless plan.)

She loved him with everything,
(He didn't trust love.)
She loved him blindly,
(He had to show her it was wrong.)
So she died blindly,
(He wanted her to see love as it really was)
