Chapter 1

“Where’d they go!” A man in a silver cloak screamed. “How the hell am I supposed to know they where right here a minute ago, how in deaths name did we lose them?” Another man cloaked in the same silver replied.

Shouts and panicked footsteps rang through the night. Flashes of silver and gold swarmed the streets of Mizack, a small city on the edge of Tizack territory. Hidden within the hysteria was a family.

“Brother Ferren. We must not allow such an opportunity to go to waste.” The man in the first cloak said to his companion. “You are right; the reward for the capture of the child is higher than ever before.” Ferren replied. Krynn looked towards his brother with an annoyed expression and uttered, “It is because no one has seen a Sheari in so long, plus the “chase” has lasted two years. The High Council knows the older the child is, the more powerful it will grow.”

The night grew cold with every passing moment. Within the ruckus allies betrayed each other. The longer a “chase” last the more blood that is spilt. Hidden in a darken ally way, huddled a small family to keep warm. Shields surround them in order to hide their presents. With bated breaths they wait and listen to the silver cloaked men speak amongst themselves. Praying they are not noticed.

The brothers explored the ally looking for any sign of a trail. Ferren turned to his brother, “What was the information given about the target?” As Krynn reached into his cloak, to retrieve the parchment that was handed out to everyone who entered the “hunt”, Ferren reach inside himself and pushed forth his power. He began to maneuver it through the ally way in hopes of finding something that is not meant to be. Just as he thought he felt something out of place, his concentration was broken, “FOUND IT!” Krynn shouted excitedly. Ferren’s powers snapped back into him so fast he was pushed back two feet. “KRYNN! DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU’VE DONE!”. Krynn covered his sensitive ears from his brothers shout. “I was only following your orders you said to find the parchment. HERE!”, he stuck his hand in Ferren’s face and started waving it. “HERE’S YOUR DANM INFORMATION!”, Krynn shouted. Ferren reluctantly dropped the mater, if what he felt earlier was real, than the target wouldn’t be able to leave without him noticing. He took a few deep breaths to calm down and reel in his angry. Once calm Ferren opened the parchment.

A woman was staring at the back of the man who had almost discovered her family. “Searin, do not worry we were not found. Relax we are safe. Our child is safe. You are safe.” A man standing behind the woman whispered into her hair. His arms gently wrapped around her middle just below her own. Her arms that held a child no older than three. She lay with her head on her mother’s shoulder sleeping peacefully, unaware of the danger that lurks but a few feet away. The woman, known as Searin, turns her head so that she is facing the man and murmurs quietly. “Ryvin, we are anything but safe. I felt it, that man found us. I sensed his power touch the surface of my shield. He knows we are here and he knows we cannot leave. We will die tonight, our child will die tonight. There is nothing that can be done.”

The brothers re-read through the information given to them by the High Council. Something they have done multiple times before. In thick red ink similar to blood read,

THE HUNT

TWO TIZACK HAVE BROKEN THE HIGH LAWS

THE WOMAN IS KNOWN TO BE AN ANGEL

THE MAN IS UNKNOWN

UNDESIRED CHILD WORTH 100,980,637,007

RETRIEVE CHILD AND BRING FORTH TO THE HIGH COUNCIL FOR JUDGEMENT

“Sigh. How come every time I fetch this out I expect more”, Krynn breathed out. “I understand exactly how you feel. But, good news brother, I believe I have found them. While you were looking for the parchment I once again searched the- “. Before Ferren could finish his sentence something zoomed past them. “Damn it. That must be them, let’s go Krynn!” With that Ferren took off running and left the darken ally way behind with Krynn on his tail yelling about what was happening. Consequently attracting the attention of others participants of the hunt. Panic sounded the streets once more as cloaks of silver and gold swarmed away from the ally.

“Ryvin! Do you know how dangerous that was. What if they hadn’t fallen for your silly trick. We had been dead within seconds!”, Searin screeched as she lowered her shields.

A low warm laugh voiced itself. “You worry too much Sear, I would not have done that if I had thought we would have come to harm, plus you said it yourself, ‘We’re dead’, so why would it have mattered. I took the stakes and won. So stop mopping like we’re already ten feet under.” Ryvin stated a little in hysteria. “You are right Ry, I overreacted. But, still that could have gone completely in the other direction. You should have consulted me first.” The woman pouted.

Ryvin let go of Searin and started drawing a magic circle. “A teleportation circle? When will we be able to stop running?” The woman voiced sullenly. Ryvin paused in his writing and looked to his lover, “I don’t Know Sear, I’m just trying to keep us safe. The only way I know how, which is to keep us on the move.”

Searin looked away, a helpless expression taking over her features. She stepped away, her hands tighten on impulse, so not to drop the precious child. Her child, her world, their beautiful baby girl was her everything. Her life that she would carelessly throw away if it were for the fragile body that clung to her even in sleep as if on impulse. She glanced down, short dark hair framed the young face. Eyes that she knew were a brilliant Safire lay hidden beneath lidded eyes and long lashes. Searin sighed, eyes that matched her love. Another she would sacrifice anything for.

She looked up and studied the man she had loved for so long, the man she still loved.  The forbidden romance placed by the High Council. Falling in love with a Tizack would have been fine, as long as it was one from her own class of Tizack, meaning angels. But fate would have it that Ryvin was to be a mage. She had gone through several stages of denial and depression. Wanting what you can’t have and pretending that maybe, he’s not just a mage, but a mage angle! Is not healthy. Searin giggled at her past naivety.

They had been so young then. She had told herself it would be a painful love, of course that was if he accepted her, which he did. In fact, looking back on it now, Ry was the one who asked her out. She thought to herself. Searin watched the man. He was the man that had given her all she ever wanted, and he was also the reason she had lost so much. How foolish she was to think they would never be discovered. When her mother saw them together by Hiren Lake in the Meevine territory, she had told the whole family. Hers and Ryvin’s.

Searin was certain he would never forgive her, for the reason they went to Meevine territory was so they would not be seen. It was her idea, the Meevine were very insolent. They thought they knew everything, they thought they were the same as them. They didn’t know angles could retract their wings if need be. And with Ry being a mage he could conceal her holy presents. Of course such trickery would never work on a Tizack. So when word spread throughout the Tizack territory they were looked down upon and news soon spread to the Tizack Council and actions were made. They were separated.

But Ryvin, he was so intelligent. He found a way for them to see each other again. For years they lived a secret life. That was of course before the pregnancy. Reality came crashing down and they panicked. They were scared, if the Tizack Council were to hear, or worse the High Council. The consequences would be dire. Searin remembered at one point they thought about abortion, but that would be risky in itself. They were sure to discover what the dead child was. Ry was the one to point such out and so their only option was to flee. They both told their families different things and escaped to Revess, a small town that was on the verge of being no more than shambles. Located southeast of the Tizack territory in Neutral territory.

There she gave birth to a gorgeous baby girl, Mave. Full name, Mavis Lux Shynin. She was named after the word meaning hidden love in the Tizack main language, her middle name meaning sacred in ancient mage text, and her last name they had combined their first names together, it was to show their unity in the one way they could. Her name was what they had, what they were, Shynin the sacred hidden love.

They lived in Revess for a year before Mave was discovered with a “hunt” on its way they fled once more. And that was all they had been doing, fleeing. And here they are once more, fleeing. But Searin wouldn’t change anything. She loved Ryvin and she loved Mave, never would she wish them not to be hers. Because they were, they were hers, just as much as she was theirs. And she knew Ryvin felt the same. About everything. And that’s why she was happy, even with the fate she was given.

A cry interrupted her mussing. Ryvin jumped up and ran towards her looking strained. Searin was confused, what was that noise, why did Ryvin look like that, what was happening? And then it clicked, Mave woke up and was scared. Scared because they weren’t at home, safe and asleep. She was scared because she didn’t know where they were. Searin’s understanding showed on her face. Mavis was crying, she would be heard, they would be found, and the circle was yet to be complete. Her body moved on impulse. She started to rock the child and whisper loving things to the young girl. Searin became aware of the fact that Ryvin was in a similar state. He was shushing her cries all while erecting a sound barrier so Mave would no longer be heard.

As the child began to calm, the man moved back to the circle and started back to drawing in a hurried manner. “Sear, if you see anyone. Tell me immediately.  There’s no chance Mave went unheard. They will be here soon. There’s no time. The circle will be incomplete. Only you and Mave will be able to go through. I’ll use my magic as a crutch to keep the circle open long enough for you to pass through”.

Searin’s eyes had grown big and began to water. She looked at the man she loved, the man she would sacrifice anything for, the man she wouldn’t leave behind. Ryvin looked at her and as if knowing what she was thinking and continued talking before she could object. “Listen Sear, it’s the only way. The only way I can protect both of-“ Searin interrupted him anyway, tears streaming down her delicate face, “I won’t, I will not leave you. You are not allowed to die without me!”.  Her voice cracked with heartache.

Footsteps could be heard in the distance, slowly gaining, coming closer. Ryvin drew faster, tears leaking threw his hard exterior. “You will.” He stated in a voice that left no room for argument.
