American Dream

American Dream

A Poem by Atticus Langston

American Dream, are you still alive?
oh, how I long for your existence.
There was a time I could find work,
there was a time my Soul had worth.

American Dream, are you still alive?
Where have you gone, where have you gone?
I need some hope to help me cope,
please rid me of my present state of mind!

American Dream, are you still alive?
In you, in you, I still believe.
I seek no riches, I seek no fame.
Just keep me safe, just keep me sane.

American Dream, are you still alive?
Let freedom reign, let freedom reign!
Let laughter and joy conquer my heart,
let not my struggles be in vain.

American Dream, I still believe-
in my patriotic duty to be free.
American Dream, I still believe-
that our best of days are yet to be.

I loved it. It seemed like the American Dream wasn't about fame or fortune, but something you need to keep holding on to, like a hope. :) Pretty.
