HemingwayA Poem by jaye riverno matter where i stood, i could see the ocean on all sides of me, clear blue and teal glistening in the light, seafoam and seaweed and some broken glass. we walked down the sidewalks lined with Jamaican caper. it was hotter in key west, we were closer to the sun. you lost yourself again, but at least the coffee was good. i saw Ernest Hemingway’s house and other haunted places, bleeding heart vines, limes and oranges and thatch palm, we ate Cuban food and looked at art. i know you don’t know how to love, and i’ve seen some things that might have brought me bad luck. but still, i drank my coffee, and stray cats came to rub their heads against my leg, stretching and yawning beneath the bushes at the Hemingway house. creeping indigo, and fresh blue paint, the locals know how to keep the ghosts out of their homes, i should have asked them for advice. © 2024 jaye riverReviews
