personal jesus

A Poem by jaye river

i know what i’m feeling, and it hurts.

it’s thirty three degrees, the freezing air stings our faces

and cracked skin, sinking deep into our limbs.

ice and snow rolling whiteouts in the city like a fog,

i can see my own breath.

six missed calls,

you told me to ignore her, so i did.

i was driven into something,

i almost didn’t regret it.

i preferred the feeling of crashing

into snow banks and freezing fingertips

as opposed to something warm.

sometimes i feel like my teeth are too

big for my own mouth,

sometimes i wish you had punched them out.
