Anathema

Anathema

A Poem by Jacob

That feeling races through my mind again.

The adreniline rush fresh.

I reach out for what I crave,

But know I cannot have.

I smile wide at the thought of it.

I walk out into the mid summer night,

Heart racing and twittering.

I am invincible and unwavering.

But the illusion does not last and I face the darkness.

The crippling truth plunges through my soul.

The rapier of morality tears away the visage of lies,

and I fall forth into the envoloping umbra.

I see myself for what I am.

A liar, and a fool.

Laughably naive.

A honed instrument of masochism.

You can not have your cake and eat it too.

The only choice we have,

is to choose.

Excellent piece. I think this poem applies to many people, realizing the frailties by which they hold their lives together.
