The Devils Touch

The Devils Touch

A Poem by Shaun Payton
"

Something in the dark dwellings.

"
Inhaled chaos.
Exhaled a ghostly grief
Digesting it would be too much.
A dark euphoria wanders
about this dreadful panic, it churns
in the stomachs gutter and rises
through, conquering the senses.

Sweating out depressions corrosion
of things that creep in. The slumber
is over and I beg you dear, tie your
merciful strings around my insecurities.
Play a lullaby to soften the devils touch.
Cover me as you will, a frantic lover

begging for this creatures demise.
A ripping in two, sew it up at the seams
even though I'll speak in tongues.
Why you haven't plunged a knife
into me is a wonder of its own disturbance.

You next there, with enlightened words
Though I be obscene, you believe a power
will seek the absurdity of this madness.
It is not within my hands to wield evil weapons.
You search that cross, unmask the red eyed hell

'You swallow needlessly upon the altar,' I spit out.
This creeping recedes to lend you my method,
A war you've waged for a conjuring of premise,
'I'm sorry Father, I let it in to execute the moral
of the story.'

Good write!! Very emotive "' tie yuor merciful strings......cover me as you will, a frantic lover.' 'The person in this poem is possessed and is frantically trying to get out of the clutches of the devil. In doing so he reveals his own dark side as well. A thought provoking poem, written to perfection.

Perplexing end to an eerie write! I think you have written the madness well.

Demonic, dark, and haunting! :)

There is a fine line between possession and madness. Just when I think you'll escape the clutches of evil as you cry out for help, you descend into your darkness of depression. "Inhaled chaos, exhaled a ghostly grief" I could feel these first 2 lines resonate throughout the poem.

In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti, Amen

I enjoyed this very much Shaun.

There certainly is Damien. Thanks for a perceptive review.
I could read this several ways.
The ending however, compels my mind to think of a Heavenly "Father".
You know, even in scriptures, the "moral of the story" (Christ), was sacrificed.
So the gut reaction might be what's the point or just the opposite and lead one to realize this may be the point. A commitment to hold on to the concept of letting go...
Hmmmm, you do have the wheels turning.
I found the write thought provoking more than prodding the emotions. Still, inspiration of logic and philosophy us just as vital as inspiration of the more visceral self.
Worthwhile indeed Shawn.
Thank you for sharing.

Thanks there Luke!:)
I actually got two reads off of this:
The first being literal: possession and the need for an exorcism.

The second was metaphorical: We all have good and evil within us. Sometimes the evil can come out to play for extended periods. This seemed as if someone who may be suffering from his own dark side.

Just my thoughts..

Wonderful write, Shaun. :)
