I Come From

I Come From

A Poem by Lucy Allison
"

This is based on a poem by Robert Seatter with the same title. Enjoy :)

"

I come from a father who lived in five countries,
a military kid
who has just settled down,
a mother, ever-resistant to changes,
who lived all her life in the same tiny town.
I come from the angel, from 25/10,
from Tories and secrets
and a miracle child
from memories and growing,
becoming less wild.
I come from good manners and eating food nicely,
from 5-a-day, cooked apples,
wholesome organic food,
from chips only on Fridays, elbows off tables
and not being rude.
I come from the IPL cricket in India,
Kolkata Knight Riders against Bangalore,
from pulling up weeds,
a tent in the garden,
barbecues in the rain and the dog from next door.

I come from it all, and it is who I am.

I realise the pacing needs a bit of work, I'm getting to it.

A beautiful poem with evocative imagery; it's strange to be able to relate to something so personal - nice one Lucy :)
