A Poem by Lucy Allison

'A silver unicorn walked by your window,'
You imagined it,
didn't you,
and all I did was line up some shapes in a row.

U-c-f-k means nothing at all,
but somewhere, a person ruled
that rearranging those four letters is taboo.

And yet, despite all the meaning we place in these shapes,
if I take my computer across a few borders,
these shapes are in a completely wrong order.
Travel a little further,
and the symbols are just wrong, full stop.

Who decided that nought should rhyme with wart?
Or that naught can rhyme with orange?
Why does night sound no different with a 'k' in front?
Why does set have so many meanings?

Why did you read those last lines in a completely different voice?

Haha. This is very clever. Why do we do these things indeed. Good job!
