To Orestes

To Orestes

A Poem by seath

The House of Atreus is stained with blood,

Not even Cassandra could conceal it from her mouth,

Like your forefathers  you bear the wrath of the gods,

Indeed the curse continued even in your hands.

‘T was perplexing to be in your stead!

For bringing justice requires her treacherous head

To be cut; be left outside the palace or a field-

Clytemnestra then removed her mask (she failed!)

You are the avenger of Agamemnon’s grief

A slayer of a faithless mother- ‘twas your fate,

The Furies pursued you with bloody tears.

Only your long lone wondering purged your guilt.

With your noble spirit you had humbly submit

To the gods and goddesses’ humanely judgement,

For a descendant of Tantalus ‘twas only you

                   Who boldly answered

for the horrid crime you’ve committed
