Oh ... My Son
How am I to bare turning around
To place you in the arms
Of your Mommy
How am I to look her in
The eyes knowing that goodbye
Waits only moments away
This could be the very
Last time I will hold you
To feel you heart beat next to mine
Daddy should not be thinking
Such thoughts but no man
Could pry you away from
My arms at this moment
Remember one thing Son
Just in case ...
I love you and your Mommy
With all my heart
It is for you and our future world
That I take these steps
Leading me away from all that
We as a family have known
Our lives to be
Our only certainty being ...
The uncertainty of what
Is to be tomorrow
If I do not do my part today
I am sure that the great
"I Am"
Will watch over all of us
Don't forget to talk with him
Each night before you go to sleep
I know Daddy and He will be talking alot
Within the passing of time
We as a family
Will continue our journey into
Our lives knowing that our
World is a safer place because
There are those of us that paid
and continue to pay
The sacrifice to make it so
I will come home to you Son
The Daddy you remember
I promise you
Lord please help me to keep
The promise I just made
You be a good boy
And remember always
That Daddy loves you
If one day you realize
You haven't seen "Ole Dad"
Around in awhile
I leave you these thoughts
Upon this poet's page
No Daddy will not be home
In a little while
Not this time Son
Why am I wearing this funny suit
Son I wear this uniform
In honor and pride
You may one day do the same
Oh Lord
He doesn't understand
Any of this!
Your Mommy, is one
Terrific Mommy
She will take care of you
And hug you for both of us
While I am gone from you
My love I will send you both
With the rising of each new
Morning's light
Upon the wings of memory and hope
My love will find its
Way to you when you least
Expect that little tug on your heart
As darkness falls
I will say yet another prayer
For all of us
Marking off one more day gone
And one less day
To be away from you
Remember ...
We share the same sky
We breath the same air
We live beyond the distance
We love beyond forever
I HAVE TO DO THIS SON
... i have to do this
Well Champ
Its time to turn the page
Into our next chapter
I love you
Oh Dear Lord
Help me to do this!
1 ... 2 ... 3 ...
Here you go Mommy
Take care of our little man
Oh darling please don't cry
Everything will be okay
We will make it through this
I promise
Have I ever lied to you
Daddy is being called
A great big hug and my love
To stay with you a lifetime
This piece so touches the heart. On one hand the honor and duty a man feels...and the other...saying goodbye to his family. How hard it must be to leave a son and wife behind...not knowing. It is very well written and I loved the picture you've chosen.
This poem really hit close to home. Three of my kids were in the military. Two of them still are. Each time they left it was hard saying goodbye knowing that it could be the last time. Of the three the hardest was my daughter. But they have all returned safely for which I am thankful.
Your poem does a beautiful job portraying that feeling.
That would have to be hardest thing to do
for a soldier being called away to let go
of his little boy.
Wow, Lesa, this is a real heart touching piece
it touches both heart and soul, all the things
the soldier goes through saying goodbye to his family,
but is it really a goodbye, you've created yet another
beautiful piece here, touching and so beautiful to read
bringing tears, you are such a great and talented writer!
Keep up the awesome work!!
I am so glad
That you have dropped in
To meet a new face
And experience a new heart
Come along with me as
Aspiring Angel speaks to
Me in whispers that brings
Her thoughts to live.. more..
