Distance and Delirium

Distance and Delirium

A Poem by Plitman_728

skin upon skin

breath upon breath

we tear at the flesh

of a question, at best.

and like feinds of a beautiful thing,

we destroy.

i'm watching you.

you, with your clever hands,

and your mercantile smile.

you collect, an art well in practice.

i watch you,

and i see.

see the way your eyes move,

away, away from me.

and i hoped, in vain, you would

watch me too.

and what will you see if you do?

a broken face,

worn, mask-like.

hardened or softened,

depending on the light.

there are distances unmapped between us.

and how did you get so far?

where was i when you purchased the train ride to

new hampshire, and then rome?

the places you've always been longing to go?

where was i?

i can't say.

perhaps lying in a field, unknown,

waiting for your feet to bring you to me.

letting the grasses swallow my tears,

and the years that i've waited.

waited....
