The Gift

When you said "I think I love you"

The heavens went ablaze

A golden light exploded

God's gift to us He gave.

 

We lived our life of passion

And every day was blessed

You held my heart in tender hands

God's gift had come to rest.

 

And then one day you turned from me

A wound so quick and deep

But nothing would deter you

God's gift I could not keep.

 

I'm older now and wiser

The words are left unspoken

Of course I love and need you still

God's gift cannot be broken.

 

I ask that you forgive me

For deeds I can't erase

Please find it in your heart dear

God's gift of loving grace.

 

Come back to me my sweet one

For we are ready to receive

God's gift of our unending love

If only you believe.

I like the way it sounds as though he is the one hurting her in the beginning, but later on it is as though she is hurting him. Great job.

Thanks for the review. You have it completely right. I think it's a pretty common scenario, after an affair one may be able to forgive, but not forget. And try as you might, it subconsciously sabotages the relationship.
