A Poem by Ashleyx
"

Longboarding is a recent new love of mine.

"

Coast

Cuts and Bruises and that on scrape on my behind

Just so I wouldn’t fall behind

Ankles on their last run

Last Sunday, last of the sun

Skate until were coasting

By the light of the moon and

street lamp spotlight

The climb of the incline is the admission price to the

Downhill derby

Sitting on the wood

To make the stakes worth taking

A coffin run with a spit second turn

No pads, no pansies, no punkin’ out

Cuts and bruises and that on scrape on my behind

Just so I wouldn’t fall behind

The rubber

On the heels of my sneakers

Are tested for endurance

And a chip of my elbow

Still lodged in the asphalt

When giggles follow falls

Sticks and stones and broken boards

Pulling my last quarter

To fix the nitch

On the nose

When the curb jumped right out in front of me

Grass stains, dirt stains, and “Remember that time?” pains

Grab my hand

I’ll whip you forward

By the tips of your finger

Learning the hard way

To never jump off

Until I’m limping back home

I dont know if this is jazzy enough.
Perhaps I should add more visuals?

it's not jazzy at all, but it's a great analogy about the value of dismissing pain and/or difficulty to know more about yourself. i remember making ramps to jump my dirt bike from and i can remember all my falls. your poem took me back and i'd like to say thank you.

one correction - Skate until were coasting ~ we're

As an aging and fellow skateboarder I could relate to this well. The scars, the moments spent laying on the ground in pain, and laughing cause you know you should have seen it coming are all memories I reflect upon when reading your piece. Nice one.

in this age of video games it s good to see kids MOVING sure you get scrapes and bruises but you learn balance and develop that connection of mind and body .

as for visuals if you see them write them ! dont hold back ~

This photo is very good. I live in Michigan. Kids are limited area for the art of the fun sporting activities. I was station in California for three year. I would go downtown and watch the kids have fun doing crazy and dangerous stuff and having great fun. I wish I had balance. Take balance and skill to longboard without breaking your neck. Thank you for your poetry.

Long boarding Hmm? Very physical on the body for sure.
Great description, I can almost feel the bumps and bruises..
Nicely done...I agree with Coyote, a pic would help for
people who are not familiar with it..

Yes you need a longboarder photo to make the poem come alive. I try to surfer and did lot of free style with the ocean. I must research longboarder. I passed the age of dangerous sports except free climbing. A very good description. You made the activity feel dangerous and fun. A excellent poem.
