Finding Light

Finding Light

A Poem by Ashlene Singh
"

This poem was written during a difficult time in my life. Mental Illness is not a joke, and the expierences are real. I hope that from reading this poem you will find hope as I did. It is possible.

"
At first glance you would think its all good,
From that smile to the twinkle in her eyes,
Everything looks as it should.
As she speaks she reveals a dark tale,
How everything crashed that she once built.
She picked herself up from the cold bare floor,
The agony held her down further more.
Suddenly fear begin to arise,
As if she was about to lose her life.
They gave her this and told her that,
But they couldn't figure out how to bring her back.
Into the darkness she spiraled down,
To a place where she couldn't be found.
They took her away and locked her up,
thinking maybe that would help.
She sat there quietly with nothing dealt,
The more she waited the more pain she felt.
But she kept quiet with nothing to say as she sat there waiting for better days.
It was cold and rainy as they went inside,
The sight of her suffering brought tears to their eyes.
Gut wrench and collapsed on the floor,
She couldn't fight anymore.
One by one they began to pack,
They needed to somehow bring her back.
She held her bags as she looked ahead,
for what lay behind was now put to an end.
Freedom is something we'd all love to grasp,
to feel no burdens and accept the past.
As she stood still with tears in her eyes,
she tasted the bittersweet feeling of this sort of goodbye.
No matter where she went or would reside the darkness was eating her from inside.
It swallowed her inner peace as it left behind, floods of worry in her mind.
Her guts where twisted and her body was shaky,
the pit of her stomach always felt achy.
she was a mess from the stress with severe anxiety,
after being taken out of the place where she was hiding.
They gave her pills and said it'll be ok,
she took them quietly as she hoped and prayed.
Her loved ones gathered with pure concern,
after taking out their time to finally learn.
To her home is where she would return,
to be around the people that love and care for her.
As she held the bags broken and scarred,
she looked forward to the brand new start.
