Fighter.

Fighter.

A Poem by Ashley Simonne
"

Late night venting.

"

She was just another angsty teenager,

Full of tangled and irrational emotions,

When a demon of reality consumed her,

Trying to take the light of youth from her eyes.
Her life spiralled vastly into darkness,

Forcing her to discover a different way of life,

She slowly began to realize how little she really knew,

Of how unfairly harsh and selfish life can be.

The illness took everything,

Without any warning and no questions.

Cancer is all God left her with,

Along with even more tangled emotion.

She slowly became too weak to walk,

Couldn't even write her name.

She was an artist,

Thrown into a war she didn't know how to fight.

Somehow she found a strength,

From all the heartache and confusion.

She used it as her weapon and won,

A survivor in the end of the war.

She had lost her friends, her body,

And she even lost herself.

But she found a love for life,

She never would have found without cancer.

And the best part of it all,

Is that girl is me.
