Splinter

Splinter

A Poem by Ashley

A splinter slipped under my skin
And it’s me who is at fault
I threw caution to the wind
Forgetting its subtle assault

It was sudden
It was piercing
Deep into my skin
So deep I might add
It may never see light again

It rooted itself into my veins
And continued to manifest
Perpetually unforgiving pains
That radiated through my chest

Your hand was grasping onto mine
As you tried to pull it free
But you told me it was hard to find
And you let go so I could see

But then the pain was gone
And the reality was as such
There was no shard inside my finger
The splinter was your touch
