You're Not SorryA Poem by AshleyDeyPoetryA poem about being hurt and broken and living with the aftermath while trying to understand it all.I will never understand The way a person could forcibly take another’s happiness What could you possibly gain Besides a fast, fleeting sense of pride And an empty, hollow feeling that follows No one rewards you For causing another’s destruction No one applauds, wanting to follow in your footsteps For making others feel so low You must truly have no heart If you can look a damaged soul in the eye And want nothing more Than to cause more damage People like you Push And push And push Until people like me break While some of us can piece ourselves back together Others shatter completely Unable to feel whole again As you chip away pieces of us Taking souvenirs as you leave The worst part of it is No one can see the gaping holes in our bodies After monsters like you are done If they could, they’d look away Or ask what we did to lose such vital pieces of ourselves What we did to provoke this We are shamed Made to relive these events Over and over again With no one to listen without casting blame If I am surrounded by walls They are to keep the monsters at bay They exist because they were built for those who took advantage of me Who couldn’t see the damage being done Those who didn’t believe me Those who looked the other way They were built to keep out those who blamed me As my last resort for protection I am left an empty shell of my former self Riddled with holes, pieces of me missing Filled with regret I should not have had to shoulder And walls forming high towers Guarding me from anyone who wants to see beyond them © 2018 AshleyDeyPoetry |
