After TonightA Story by Ashley;Song-Fic. Veryyyy old, but one of my favorites :)
“David, where are we going?” “You’ll see.” My best friend David and I have been roaming the neighborhood woods for over an hour. The sun had already set, which meant the moon had already made its appearance and the sky was starlit. I had told him it would be dangerous to take a stroll through the woods at this hour of the night, but he insisted he had something important to show me. I just shrugged as he guided me through the grassy woods, knowing I would be safe with him by my side. He always had this magnetic pull about him; I couldn’t refuse anything he requested from me. “I regret allowing you to take me wherever you’re taking me. My legs are about to fall off!” “You won’t regret it once you get there. Trust me. We’re almost there, so it’s too late to turn back.” He shot a grin in my direction and continued to saunter down the dirt path to his destination. A few minutes later, he spun around to face me. “We’re here.” I raised my eyebrows as he grasped my hand into his and escorted me into a spacious, verdant field. The stars shimmered in the sky as if they were joyous that we had arrived. My eyes widened at the allurement of the scene in front of me as David beamed at my reaction, as if he was anticipating it. “Wow, David. I don’t know what to say…” I plopped down onto the dew-coated grass and crossed my legs into a pretzel shape. David soon joined me and reclined, placing his hands behind his head and began to gaze up at the stars. “Is that a good thing, or a bad thing?” “What do you think? This whole scene is… magnificent!” David chuckled a little, obviously amused at my reactions. “Yeah, it is, I always come here to clear my head… write songs… stuff like that…” I smiled as I thought of 'Falling,' one of my favorite songs of his. Then there was a silence. A silence that I was surprisingly comfortable with. We were sprawled next to each other, admiring the stars and their wonders as our hands were intertwined. “David, I forgot to ask you something.” “What is it, Natasha?” “Why did you bring me here?” He licked his lips and sat up, bringing his knees up to his chest. He stared at his shoes for a moment, as if contemplating an answer. I continued to bore my eyes into the side of his head until he turned his torso to face me, gazing into my eyes, as if searching for something. An answer, possibly? “Well, Tasha… what do you think of me?” My eyebrows knitted together in confusion. Why was he asking me this? “What do you mean? Like… my feelings for you?” He nodded, still waiting for a remark from me. “Well, you’re like a brother to me. I can tell you anything, and-” “Can you see me as… something more?” I was completely baffled. I could hardly utter out a single word; My breath was stuck in my throat. The thing was, that’s all I have been thinking about since I had my first encounter with David. I always envisioned us as a couple, companions, and etcetera. “W-why do you ask?” I finally stammered in a hushed tone. He sighed and began to nibble on his bottom lip. “W-well… I love you, Nat. I-I can’t see myself with anyone else but you. I brought you here because… I thought it would be the right place to tell you that I loved you. I-I was hoping that you would feel the same way, but if you d-don’t it’s okay…” he rambled on and on. I giggled a little as I was on the verge of tears. “David… you don’t have to worry… I love you too.” His grin was outstretched as he gripped my hands in his. “So, do you still have regret?” “Not anymore.” I know that after tonight You don’t have to look up at the stars No, no, no, no I know by the end of tonight You don’t have to look up at the stars And I know if the love is alright You don’t have to look up at the stars No, no, no, no I know by the end of tonight You’ll be looking down upon them from heaven © 2009 Ashley;Author's Note
