SurpriseA Chapter by Ashley RachelleThis is informational but needed, it will get better i promise!“Aubrey!” a familiar voice called to me. Smiling I turn around to face Jace, a tall and handsome man that I called my best friend. He always made my day whether that was surprising me with gifts or just a complement. His dark brown hair and bright blue eyes complemented him well. He always wore a v-neck and baggy jeans. Can't forget the leather jacket, his signature look. Only 18 and he had the world ahead of him. Girls falling over him and his music career kicking off. “Surprise Surprise, Jace McMiles skipping class again I see.” I tease as he throws his backpack onto the table. “Class is overrated. What are we doing tonight?” he asked. “We? There is no we tonight. I have homework overload and its going to kill me.” I respond. Rolling his eyes he had the perfect Jace response “Why study now? Come on Bree! Chill with me tonight.” His eyes flickered and I couldn't say no. Instead I didn't respond. As I looked down at my books Jace caved. “Ok you can bring your homework but I have a surprise! Come to the cove after class.” Finally I answered “Fine, but this better be a f*****g awesome surprise.” Jace smirks, getting up he comes behind me and says“Bree, do I ever give bad surprises?”
Finally my class lets out and I walk to the cove. The cove is our place. Just me and Jace's, its a spot in the woods hidden from everyone else. We found it when we were in middle school, where we hid together when our parents were in their “bad moods”. Jace's parents were abusive, he learned to fight back but the cove was a way to get away from our problems. As for me, my mom is a drunk and dad's out of the picture. I never knew him, he left before I was born. The bent trees shaped into a doorway and formed into walls, protecting me from the outside world. The leaves were damp from the rain earlier and the branches didn't completely block out the fall wind. I sat on one of the logs and waited. There were three logs, Jace had found them in the woods and brought them for us. We also used a tree stump as a table. The cove was bare but homie and it was nice to be secluded from everyone else.
I hear footsteps and smile, Jace's hands press against my eyes and I cover my hands over his. His fingertips are cold from the weather but I can feel the body heat from him pressed behind me. I lean back into him and remove his hands. “Where's my surprise?” I ask. He leans down inches away from my face. “You're so eager.” He smiles and licks his lips. His flirtatious gestures and closeness makes me nervous. I've never seen this side of him but I wasn't totally opposed to it. He pulls off his backpack and searches inside while saying “I have something to tell you but I don't want to scare you...I got you this to help you understand. To realize that I would never hurt you. That I'm telling you this because you're important.” He looks at me and sees my puzzled looks. “Jace, you could never scare me. What's so impor-” Then I saw it.
“What the hell is that?” I exclaim grabbing the tickets from him. “Why do you have two tickets to Vamp?” I question. “It's just a club Bree, calm down. I knew you'd react like this that's why I want you to go with me.” he explained. My face showed it all but just in case I responded “Just a club? Are you kidding me. Please tell me you are joking. You're not going to Vamp. It's for run away nobodies who need to change. Jace you have so much ahead of you don't do this. You know what will happen if you do. You know what will happen-” Tears flood my eyes and he's at my side holding me. “Nothing will happen to us. Aubrey, it's not against the rules if you change with me. It's really not that bad I've looked into it. You know I would never let you do anything that would hurt you.” “Why are you doing this?” “We don't have the best lives Bree, this could make it so much better for us.” “It could kill us!” “Bree all I'm asking is for you to come with me tonight and just check it out. Nothing has to happen, the decision doesn't have to be made yet.” “I can't believe you, I can't believe you want to become a vampire.” © 2015 Ashley Rachelle |
