I like the idea of the waves crashing into a person and taking away something - good in itself, but I like even more the waves bringing something back. Water has always been used as the idea of cleansing and washing away sin. But I think its more than that in this poem - the imagery of waves bringing ashes with them is suitably dark but a beautiful image. I like this, good work :)
I have always thought of waves as a harbinger of good things but this one was a very poignant change. This poem crams in a lot of pain and sadness without any redemption in sight. A haunting yet beautiful piece.
Each time I read this I feel something different and something more. It ebbs and flows just like the salt waves that you have written about. I love it.
I love the metaphor of the waves and the ashes. Waves have that characteristic of taking things away, yet coming back again. I liked that the speaker then mirrored the waves, coming back after they took everything from him. And even though ashes implies something bad, he wants them back, good and bad, because without them he is nothing. This could be a metaphor for a number of different things, such as an off and on relationship, an addiction, or just life itself. After, without the bad stuff, and the hard stuff, how do the good things hold such great meaning and significance to us? Just like death gives life meaning, the tragedies and pains in life give the triumphs meaning. Good poem, possibly my favorite from you so far.
the blended mythic origins are so beautifully subtle one has to pay ever close attention for those gems hidden in the waves~ multilayered and creative~and of course the composition is breath taking~ a melancholy surrender~
