The hands that hold me

The hands that hold me

A Poem by Ashley Lytle

If you asked me who could hurt me the most
I could name only two whose words would bury me forever
Yes there's a dozen who could push me into the deep hole
Who could knock me off my cliff

But the two that come to mind
Our the hands that pulls me up
The arms that can catch me when I'm falling
The people I find solace in during the darkest of times

They're the foundation of my house
And the devastation that would come
Would be such of a mighty earthquake
Knocking me down to nothing but scraps
For someone else to take as their own
Their words would pierce my heart
Leaving me dying out in the open

All it would take is one word
From either of those people
For my world to collapse around me
And to find me dead amongst the ashes
