SHALL I RISE?

SHALL I RISE?

A Poem by Ayesha Chatterjee

A drop of water,

  A breath of wind

Snow-capped mountains,

  Horror within

A silent prayer,

  Unspoken works

A careless curse,

  A shattered world

Misty teardrops,

  A whispered note

An offbeat chord,

  A black rose

A restless mind

  To comfort the wound

And the thoughts etched

  On a gory canvas spoke

"I walk the length of the moonlit beach

Try to kiss the stars that I can't reach

Hold out my hand to the broken gate

To realise that I'm too late"

And again ,

A lifetime shall pass before I wake...

This is truly amazing! ..the restless mind indeed is a gory canvas with the thoughts etched out with painful poignancy!

We never know how high we are
Till we are called to rise;
And then, if we are true to plan,
Our statures touch the skies.

The heroism we recite
Would be a daily thing,
Did not ourselves the cubits warp
For fear to be king.
--Dickinson

Your title drew me in. This is a lovely poem.
