Fade In: Lullabies INT. THE DOORWAY OF A WARMLY LIT MASTER
BEDROOM " NIGHT
ANGLE: SLOW APPROACH FROM BEHIND TO THE
DOORWAY From behind, we see a man prop himself
against the doorway of the bedroom using his right shoulder. He is on the
phone. JACK (whispers into phone) Mum don’t worry, I won’t forget. Anyway, I
have to go, Lizzie must have got home early while I was in the shower and I
promised I’d make her dinner. (pause) Okay. You too. Bye. (hangs up)
INTERCUT TO: ANGLE: C/U OF JACKS FACE, THE
MONITOR VISIBLE OVER HIS LEFT SHOULDER Jack, still propped against the doorway,
has his eyes closed as he listens to his wife’s voice sing a lullaby to their
child in a bedroom across the hall. It also comes from the monitor on his
bedside table. A white light suddenly falls across the
room, coming from the bedroom window behind him. He turns and frowns. JACK What the? Over the sound of heavy rain, we hear the
engine switch off and the sound of the car door slamming shut. We then
hear the front door open and, seconds later, close. After a few moments of a rustling
noise, a voice comes from downstairs. LIZZIE (O.S) (Loud whisper) Jack honey? You up? (pause) JACK Lizzie?
Jack quickly turns to face the monitor on
the bedside table.
VOICE ON THE MONITOR (O.SO (singing softly) And down will come baby, cradle and all.
CUT TO: ANGLE: FAST ZOOM ON JACKS FACE
JACK (GASP!) BLACKOUT:
