A Poem by Ashley Amigoni
"

A sestina.

"

The picture hushed a thousand words

It saw what I would not believe

I trust the lens of honesty

To speak of what the eyes can’t see

It once was just a fantasy

We joked around and said our lies

The truth he speaks must be his lies

I have to search between his words

To see what is his fantasy

What shall I chose in to believe

If all he does I cannot see?

Too much to ask is honesty

I’m caught within his honesty

It hurts to see it’s where he lies

He does not know that I can see

The picture slowly tells the words

I wish I would make him believe

That lies are not a fantasy

I picture love a fantasy

As filled with trust and honesty

With him it’s hard to just believe

He likes to picture love with lies

I hear him sing to me his words

He can’t conceal what I can see

We two aren’t one that both will see

I cannot share his fantasy

The war is always with our words

The picture shows his honesty

I tear the lyrics filled with lies

In hope that one day he’ll believe

The photo proves that I’ll believe

The things I only want to see

I smile away his humored lies

To keep my world in fantasy

I give myself no honesty

I leave without a single word
