Drown

Drown

A Poem by Ashley Amigoni
"

Written in Spring 2006

"

She turns slowly in her green bed

Deliberately.  On her arm she rests her head

And gazes at him through her hair.

He does not flinch under her stare,

Though it is hard to hold back.

Perspiration from the sky

Sprinkles down into his eyes.

From her eye she starts to weep

For he is hers, but she cannot keep,

Though it is hard to hold back.

A cold wind blows and moves her hair.

She looks upon him lying there

And grasps his arm, holding it tight,

Nuzzling close, safe from the night.

This moment may not come back.

His foot moves and brushes her own.

She knows her feelings for him have grown

Yet she wonders does he truly know?

The rain falls harder before the show.

This moment may not come back.

They stand and brave the coming storm.

He blocks the wind and keeps her warm.

She clears the drops upon his face

And prays they wont ever leave this place.

She feels his hands upon her back.

She longs to hold his steady stare

And steal a kiss, if she would dare.

Instead, her arms just hold him close

And touch the rain upon his clothes.

She feels his hands upon her back.

The band bows out and leaves the crowd

As rain pours harder from out the clouds.

Grabbing his arm, she leaves with him.

She cannot drown and cannot swim.

This is it.  They cant go back.
