I look at the Mirror

I look at the Mirror

A Poem by Azure Montessa (Blue)
"

I see her...

"

I look at the mirror and there I see
a very young woman smiling back at me.
With dark brown eyes, mysterious and deep,
she hides her monsters with secrets to keep.

I look at the mirror and there I see
the flaws on her face in morbid scrutiny.
She believes her lie--she's nothing but a beast,
with her heart intact to stay human at least.

I look at the mirror and there I see
someone with a name but without identity.
She used to be sure, now she's lost in her way
with nowhere to go, not even a place to stay.

I look at the mirror and there I see
the greatest of failures in world history.
With sins and mistakes all piled up so high
will one fervent prayer grant her mercy to die?

I look at the mirror and there I see
a shattered soul in poignant poetry.
Adorned with applause, hailed as divine
I pity the girl in her miserable shrine.

I especially like the last line. Great imagery. The feeling expresses in the poem is in such contrast to your profile photo :-)

We all look in the mirror and see a reflection of someone we are unfamiliar with, someone that most people do not know. I can very well relate to this poem. thank you for sharing :)

I can really relate to this...and as honest as I may be, I rarely look at myself in the mirror because I know how judgmental they can make us. We need to learn to accept our beauty without having to see it. Life is about expressing ourselves, right? So, we should learn to express our beauty in our personalities. Perhaps going a day or two without wearing makeup, so we know how it feels to 'be normal'. I believe many girls overuse makeup, to the point where it weighs them down and that is all others see of them...they don't see the person underneath, don't bother to, they just see a pretty face.

The photo is perfect for the poem you've formulated! For some, a mirror shows much more than our appearance but also the struggles that have been crawling underneath our skin. Well written, keep writing!

Cool Photo, goes great with your poem. In some way I think that girls and women all go through this at some point. We just have to remember that really can be our own worst critic. Well written.

Wow, that's mouthwatering. Thank you so much, Sahara.
I like this as it makes me think about what others see within themselves when they look at a mirror as views and opinions change over time. I like the progression throughout this piece. Very nice.
