Memories in the Rain

Memories in the Rain

A Poem by Azure Montessa (Blue)
"

Rain always drowns us with thousand memories

"

I stare outside the window
and watch the outpouring of the heaven's tears
bathing the thirsty earth with its delicate drops.
The rain is trying to tell me something
so I attune my ears to the steady rhythm
and listen intently to the song between the pits and pats.
I close my eyes
and will the volume of the music
to drown out the noise of my consciousness.
And in the black nothingness
in a world behind closed lids
I see the vivid images of flooding nostalgia.
I find myself drifting back to the memory lane
of scented roses and of the smell of the raindrops
-- A faded past of a faraway long ago.

I see a pig-tailed six-year-old
eyes brimming with incomparable innocence,
laughing as she clings to the hand of her father.
Her happiness is under the shade of a tree
where she and her daddy are waiting for the rain to stop
(She never tells him she wishes the opposite to happen.)

Years pass and she's quite a woman
And men flock for her attention, not knowing that she's in love
with that boy who shared his umbrella one summer rain.

Now time has made her a definite beauty
But only the rain sees her still playing and dancing in craze,
Also the sole witness to her very first kiss.
Months pass and rain is no longer a joy
Scarred by teenage love and lies, she bleeds
and bitter tears find consolation in the company of raindrops.
Feeling the drips all over her skin
Drowning herself in the flood of pain
Laughing, loving, losing
Dying
She remembers everything.

She wants to hold every drop of the heaven's tears
For every drop is a precious memory
Memories made, memories capsuled
Bridging the gap between
the dreaming and the now...
My eyelids flutter open
And rainbow colors pierce the black-and-white.
The rain has finally stopped singing
And earthly noise fills my ears..
I'm back to reality, I breathe.
Yet, in the recesses of my brain,
I always hear her cries
Silenced by the weeping of the rain.

Enchanting the way the pitter patter of the rain drops has a hypnotic effect, taking the lady from busy reality to distant pleasant memories of childhood and then onto teenage years as she grew up into a beautiful woman !

A nostalgic and engrossing peruse !

Thank you for such encouraging words, Jack... :)
dear blue... I wish for you... lovely birdsong.
A breeze to touch your face and the
scent of Chantilly Lace... and sweet grace.
Your poetry is soft upon the ground...
to be lifted up on a branch of a
lovely tree where sunshine rests just for thee.
Truly... Pat

Thanks a lot, Pat! I enjoyed reading your poem for me. Lovely. :)
I love this piece, here there's a deep feeling of connection between the poet, the rain, sadness, happiness, progression through life. Rain always there through the memories, and when it stops raining the poet calls it "going back to reality". I feel a sense of peace that the rain seems to bring to the poet; "..silenced by the weeping of the rain."

Thank you so much! :)
It's like a close friend sharing a part of themselves, a privilege you are blessed with to know something as deep and personal as this, for few do. Pieces like this make me love writing and people who write all over again,

Thanks for the share

Y'very welcome
I really love the part when you separate yourself from everything but the sound of the rain, and I love the description of the scene in your head with your daddy. From perfect simple happiness to the more angst-ridden years of maturing, your poem progresses gracefully. I am glad that when you wake up, the memory of the sadness is not overwhelming. It should be as an annoying gnat that you slap without a second thought.

Thank you so much for your detailed and encouraging reviews, Annie! :)
This has good imagery, and a good timeline, but this can be expanded further still until the main character is in her old age. Write what you know, but don't be afraid to write what you can *imagine*.

Thanks, Douglas. I'll expand my imagination further. :)
Rain is another of those effective stimuli for poetry. You have taken an interesting approach. I think there is a lot you can still do with this one.
