Poetry

One day, I was sitting under a tree,

I had nothing to do, so I was free.

I started thinking about a mystery,

That why many have tried to define poetry.

I get trapped in that situation,

And sank in a poetic world of imagination.

I started searching answer to this question,

That's why no one is able to define composition.

I got one answer after a long illusion,

That poetry is a combination of rhyme, music and vision.

It has a feeling and emotion,

Which convey a message to the whole nation.

I got only one answer again and again,

That poetry can relieve all the pains.

It has power to convert snow into rain,

And if you can successfully define it,

Then you can change your life,

Only with help of a paper and a pen.

Kind of like trying to capture lightining in a jar I think. Every writer will have their own definition of poetry and the dictionary will have a standard one but generic and probably flaccid to people who write poetry.

I love the way you have tried to define poetry. I love that you have used some interesting & unexpected phrases: “combination of rhyme, music, and vision” (love this). I feel that your rhyming is NOT organic, tho . . . it feels like you sometimes reach for a rhyme, instead of putting all your heart into the message you want to say: “relieve all the pains” . . . “convert snow into rain” . . . these do not sound true-to-life or meaningful, as far as the power of poetry . . . it sounds like you’re just going for the rhyme in some places.
