Unsaid Emotions

A Story by Adelia Alighieri
"

Me and my friend, Anwesh wrote this one together...Hope you like it.

"

 (Anwesh starts off)

“He who never speaks out, never gains, never learns and never loves…”

The cold current of water sprayed across the rocks and pebbles scattered haphazardly on the waterbed. Touched those stones and then, brushed past her feet. Her naked feet. She leaned forward and touched the pristine – clear water, and felt the it slip through her fingers. The evening was about to set in and there was a strange eerie feeling all around. All she could hear was the silent rapids of the Ganges splattering across.

He sat on a rock, constantly scratching it. Every now and then, he looked up… looked at her. And he would feel his eyes look down, his heart melt and oh! So many things. This was the second week he sat here… just staring at her.

“Do I love her…? Do I tell her…? What do I tell her?”

As he scanned through these questions in his head, he saw her get up and come his way. He quickly slid behind the rock, and as usual, prayed and hoped that she didn’t see him. When he opened his eyes, he saw her standing in front of him.

She stared at him through those innocent blue eyes, and said, “You are…?”

“Oh, I am Sahaz”, he said, straightening up.

“I have never seen you here before. Come here often?”

I should have found a better spot to hide.

He scratched his head, looking anywhere but at her.

“Aah, yeah… Lovely spot you know. Water and rocks, and more water and more rocks…”

Damn it, control your stupidity.

“Anyways, am Sahaz.”

She sheepishly smiled and said, “Am Asin.”

Then, she opened her hair, which was so far tied loosely. She straightened them out and then said, “You live close by?”

“Not really. I live in the village behind that hill.” He pointed at a small village on his left side, glad to have an excuse for not looking at her angelic face.

They kept quite for a while. Then she said, “I am getting late. I have to go. I will se you some other time, okay?”

He didn’t hear anything, staring at her kept him too busy.

“Hello?”

“Oh, yeah. Okay, see you later.”

She disarmed a smile at him, “Bye!”

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“You believe in love?”

“Me? Aah, I don’t know. Maybe…”

He kept staring at her.

“What? What are you staring at?”

“Do you know how beautiful you are?”

“You are just making fun of me, aren’t you?”

“You really think I would do that?”

(Arwa takes over)

“No….Maybe yes…I’m not sure.”

He moved slightly closer. Just enough so that she couldn’t notice that he did.

“You don’t trust me, do you?”

“I do.”

He held out his cold hand. “Do you?”

A tremor of a shy smile seized her lips. She took hold of his hand.

“Yes.”

He just couldn’t resist…So he smiled back.

They kept walking, hand in hand. He still couldn’t believe it. There was fire burning down the pit of his heart. An excitement he couldn’t deny.

“You still did not answer my question Sahaz.”

 “Huh? What question?”

“The one I just asked you.”

 “You did?”

She halted. He looked at her. Her black hair fluxed with the breeze. It mesmerized him. Then he remembered.

“Oh, that question. I told you that I don’t know.”

“And why do you don’t know?”

He started to blush. “Why don’t you tell me, then? Do you believe in love?”

She sighed a little. “Yes, I do.”

“Really? You do? Do you?” He couldn’t think of what to say.

he giggled, “Yes, I do! I think those who don’t believe in love aren’t humans.”

“Well that’s rude to say…You mean I’m not human?!” He tried to add some fun.

“First, you never said you did not believe in love; you said you don’t know. Second, it’s not rude; it’s obvious.”

Somehow, he felt happy. Just knowing that she believes in love was enough to encourage him.

“Okay…You’re right. I admit it…..So, do you believe in being loved, Asin?”

She giggled again. He loved it when she did.

"Of course I do! What’s the point of loving some one when you’re not loved in return?”

“So do you think there’s some one, some where who loves you?”

“Yeah…There must be…There has to be!” She laughed again and ran towards the river. He stood there watching her. She mooned near the flowing water, playing with the strident waves.

Come on, Sahaz! This is your chance!

With the wind blowing at his face, it was difficult for him to open his eyes; but he kept on looking at her.

Go ahead. Confess.

He kept staring at her. She was undoubtedly, the most wonderful sight.

“Come on Sahaz!! The water’s wild!” She yelled on top of her voice.

I’m ready. Let’s do it.

She looked at him again and gestured to come to the river.

No, wait…I can’t…

“Sahaz? What are you waiting for, huh?”

Maybe she gets mad at me.

“What are you thinking?”

Maybe, just maybe, she doesn’t get mad at me.

“Oh, sorry Asin…I was looking behind you…See that flock of wild sparrows? It’s a beautiful sight.”

She looked behind her. There were no sparrows.

“Sahaz, you’re mad.”

He walked nearer.

“No, I’m not.”

She laughed a little. Her hair was all tangled and a little wet now.

He reached her. She looked up at his face.

Go ahead, Sahaz. Do it.

“What?”

He bent down, his face right on top of her head.

“Asin,”

“Hmm?” She looked up at him.

Now was his moment, his chance.

Do it, you idiot!

‘Asin,”

She laughed at him again.

“What?”

There were thoughts. Fast ones. Circling round and round in his head. He kept looking at her.

“Asin,”

She nearly stood up this time. “WHAT?”

“There’s a dragonfly sitting on your head.”

“Is there?”

“Yeah.”

“I don’t believe you.”

“There is, trust me.”

She smiled again and captured his heart more firmly, again too.

“And now; you’ll tell me it just flew away, won’t you?”

He smiled. At his foolishness. At her smartness.

“Yeah.”
