BIRTHDAY CHILD

I knew it was a special day;

I was bigger now, in a big way.

I looked around, so many presents for me!

Piled as high as my eyes could see!

Toys of every shape and size;

each package held a new surprise.

All of my friends and family were here,

to wish me “Happy Birthday” cheer.

There was so much food, cake and ice cream, too;

so many games, and fun things to do.

The excitement and joy twinkled in my eye

like all the stars shining bright in the sky.

As mommy brought out the cake, the candles shined bright;

I thought of my wish as mommy turned down the light.

My daddy kissed me and lay a hand on my shoulder

as I made my wish and turned another year older.
