Killing Time

Killing Time

A Poem by MOMandWIFEistheLIFE
"

This poem is about the terrorist attacks of 9/11. I tried to portray what a victim or family member could have been feeling, or the emotions of our country the day the attacks happened. I hope I did that.

"

KILLING TIME

We kissed our loved ones goodbye that day,

while in our hearts, wanting them to stay.

Everything seemed normal, without a care;

laughter, happiness, and love to share.

Nothing prepared us for the worst,

as the calmness of our everyday lives was burst.

First came the roar of the planes as they crashed,

the fear ripping through our hearts in a flash.

Those trapped inside, screaming in fear,

hoping, praying someone would hear.

Others ran for their lives, captured in dread,

hoping their loved ones were not dead.

As the Twin Towers came crashing down,

they scattered debris all over the ground.

The shock and the horror seemed to cut like a knife,

among the dead…a husband, a wife.

The whole sky seemed to fill with smoke,

as out of fear, no one spoke.

Our lives have been shattered, other lives have been lost.

as our country’s peace now came with a cost.

Slowly the Towers are being rebuilt,

those who’ve survived, dealing with guilt.

It has been several years since that day of shame,

but the horror and memories will always remain.

*Dedicated to all the families and victims of 9/11.

I love it and think it is very toching. I'm not an emotional person but this poem started to make me cry. It really brings to the surface all the pain and suffering of those that have suffered.

I love it! I remember where I was that day. I was sitting in the dentist's office having a tooth pulled. I couldn't believe what I was hearing over the radio is I lay there waiting for the Novocaine to kick in.

My only suggestion is this:
instead of: Our lives have been shattered, other lives have been lost.
How bout: Our lives have been shattered, other lives lost.

I think it allows the words to flow a little better in that line.
