Death by ChoiceA Poem by Aruna IyerClad in my wedding finery, Drenched in the body’s perfumed infidelity, Striped by dreams and hopes struck down by others, Illuminated by the misery of light from beneath selfish depths, Coloured by the shame and refuse of a million years, I lie in wait for you And with open arms, I hope To embrace you for the last time. * It is by choice, dear Death That I await your smoky enclaves. Take me in. Take me far from the butterflies that spit venom. Away from birds that peck out eyes. From animals that have a sixth sense. And from humans that crawl the earth, Invisible as virus.
