Look At Me Now

Look At Me Now

A Poem by Briana O'Connor
"

Challenge Answer - Embrace The Joy (not my best by any stretch to the imagination, but hey I tried)

"

Look at this wino,

Sober at last,

Smiling and laughing

And sharing such wonder.

Look at this boozer

With light in her eyes,

Sitting round’ tables

With folks who don’t mix.

Look at this inebriate,

Humble and content,

Hand holding hand,

Joining in prayer.

Look at this alcoholic,

A recovering drunk,

Grateful for her past,

And focused on today.

The impressions I have when reading is of remoteness. The body is present and enduring stoically. She endures the whipping of the labels from the past like specters chastising her again and again. A darkness permeates the experience, followed by compassion for one who isolates herself, thus losses opportunities to reveal to herself just how beautiful she is.

thank you for the very insightful review.
I can relate to this, because I known someone who was an alcoholic and is now better and sees the world through different eyes now."
