The HuntressA Poem by Briana O'ConnorEscorting me everywhere With an aura of darkness, Mimicking my bearing, My gesture and my velocity. Relieve her, I cannot. She’s adhered to my spirit, Leaching my emotions, Yearning for dominion. My shadow, so still Whenever I’m rooted, Seemingly harmless, But I assure you she’s not. Whispering in the silence, Mocking through the wind, Vanishing from my vision To return with sudden malice. I resist its temptation, The pull towards its level, Longing for lower ground To entwine with my body. This reflection of obscurity, It’s lingering in the darkness, Stalking my presence, Awaiting my submission.
