The Huntress

The Huntress

A Poem by Briana O'Connor

Escorting me everywhere

With an aura of darkness,

Mimicking my bearing,

My gesture and my velocity.

Relieve her, I cannot.

She’s adhered to my spirit,

Leaching my emotions,

Yearning for dominion.

My shadow, so still

Whenever I’m rooted,

Seemingly harmless,

But I assure you she’s not.

Whispering in the silence,

Mocking through the wind,

Vanishing from my vision

To return with sudden malice.

I resist its temptation,

The pull towards its level,

Longing for lower ground

To entwine with my body.

This reflection of obscurity,

It’s lingering in the darkness,

Stalking my presence,

Awaiting my submission.

You are welcome! And thanks for the friend invite!
ooooooooo nice dark piece says i .. your title drew me in .. i especially appreciate your use of ones shadow as an analogy as well as a metaphor ...

the darkness within rises to the surface only to disappear as our shadows do .. i think its very creative .. nice one for sure .. put it in my library :)

Aww thank you so much :D
I like this, its kinda creepy with the stalking and obvious following you but you seem to give it light in describing the action and almost motives of your shadow, if anyone chose to write about their shadow I would recommend they read this first its a great work :)

Very cool rumination upon your shadow! So much more could be read in these lines too… of our search for ourselves and meaning in our souls and our lives.
